The India Freight Corridor is a transformative project that is reshaping the country’s logistics and transportation landscape. Spearheaded by the Indian Railways, it aims to establish a dedicated network for freight trains, separating cargo transport from passenger traffic to enhance efficiency and speed.
Comprising two main corridors, the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) and the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), this initiative connects critical industrial hubs across the country. The WDFC spans from Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra, focusing on containerized cargo, while the EDFC connects Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal, supporting coal, steel, and other bulk goods.
This project addresses key logistical challenges by reducing transit time, cutting costs, and lowering carbon emissions. With modern infrastructure like automated signaling systems and high-capacity trains, the corridors significantly enhance India’s trade efficiency and industrial growth.
